Susquehanna Service Dogs Introduces Live Online Puppy Cam
Harrisburg, PA (PRWeb) January 7, 2009 -- Join Susquehanna Service Dogs (SSD) in watching the newest litter of future service dogs grow! For the first time, people can follow the puppies as they begin their journey to becoming service dogs. Born on November 25, 2008 to SSD Scarlett and Alex, a guide dog from the Guiding Eyes for the Blind Canine Development Center, these puppies will begin training to become service dogs when they are just eight weeks old. In the first part of their journey, they will join puppy raiser families where they will gain experiences and skills that will enable them to help individuals with disabilities lead more independent lives. Before they are two years old, they will be able to open and close doors, retrieve numerous objects, turn light switches on and off, pull a manual wheelchair, find a cordless phone and much more. Additionally, each service dog is specially trained to serve the needs of the individual they are paired with.
Since 1993, SSD has been training service, hearing, balance and therapy dogs. SSD includes Keystone Therapy Dogs, a professional-level therapy group that provides comfort and support for children and adults with illnesses and disabilities. SSD is a member of Assistance Dogs International and Capitol Area United Way.
SSD is a program of Keystone Children & Family Services, an agency of Keystone Human Services. As a family of nonprofit organizations dedicated to helping individuals live full, more independent lives in the community, Keystone provides a variety of services, including children and family services; support for individuals with autism, developmental and intellectual disabilities, and mental illnesses; and support for the elderly to live more independently.
